10. Objective of the Subject
  • To acquaint the student with the sciences of the Quran and to compare between the opinions of scholars in defining these sciences.
  • To expose the student of other sciences which pay attention to the Quran: its revelation, implementation, its words, meanings of its words, meanings of its rulings, its superiority, how to recite it, reasons for revelation, and huroof muqatta’ah.
  • To gain an indepth knowledge of the Noble Quran.
11. Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this subject, students should be:

  • Increase his relationship with the Noble Quran, and to always recite and memorize it.
  • Contemplate over the meanings of the Noble Quran while reciting.
  • Overcome doubts and incorrect information that is prevalent in the general public concerning the Noble Quran.

Synopsis To know the sciences of the Quran that are concerned with words, meanings, rulings, the reasons for revelation and the separated letters (which are at the start of some Surahs).  To know the importance and benefits of the Quran, the revelation and its methods, and the manners of reciting the Noble Quran.

  • The linguistic and the technical meanings of Quran.
  • The constructional meaning of ulum al Quran, its subjects and benefits.

  • The terminology and regulation of scholars regarding Makkan and Madanian verses

  • Ilm kifyiat inzalihi (the science of the nature of Revelation).

  • Mutawatir (transmitted by many) –Al mash’hur (well-known)-al’ahad(transmitted by one)-al-shaz (irregularity of transmission) – almawduaÑ(fabricated) – almudraj (not directly taken from the Companion).

  • First: the ‘good’ should dominate the ‘weak’.
  • Second: the explicit reasons will dominate the other fully reliable   reasons (sahih).
  • Third: To enquire about the reasons if they are all explicit.
  • Fourth:  the riwayiÉt (Narrations about the reasons of revelations) in the presence of the Companions (one of the Companions of the Prophet) will be given greater weight in authenticity.
