Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) led by the Faculty of Finance and Administrative Sciences (FFAS) recently organized the 7th Global Waqf Conference 2019 with the theme “The Development, Management and Innovation of Waqf for Millennial Generation” (https://gwc2019.mediu.edu.my/) on 10-12 November 2019 at Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat, Kuala Lumpur. The conference is jointly co-organized with a Islamic Development Banks (IsDB)n Bank Rakyat, UNIRAZAK, FINTERRA, MMU, NAMA Foundations and other organizations. Among the objectives of GWC 2019 are to discover alternative solutions for Waqf development through the use of new technologies, to explore the possibility of standardization of Waqf regulation not only in Malaysia but globally, to showcase Waqf success stories that are making real time impact for the poor and to expose millennials on the importance, concepts and practises of Waqf.
Pre Conference was held in MEDIU on Sunday, 10 November 2019 and was officiated by Chairman of UniSZA’s Board of Directors, Dato’ Dr. Muhammad Nur Manuty in the presence of MEDIU Acting CEO, Prof. Dr. Hj. Wan Sulaiman Bin Wan Yusoff with topics in Waqf related such as The Importance and Tradition of Waqf based on Al Quran & Sunnah, Maqasid (Objectives) of Waqf in Islam, Principles & Practice of Waqf in Islamic Civilization and Prospect of Waqf Applications Among Millennial were presented. Later in the evening, a Waqf global networking – round table discussion (RTD) was led by the RTD Chairman, Prof. Dr. Hj. Wan Mohtar Wan Yusoff.
The official opening ceremony of GWC2019 on Monday, 11 November 2019 was officiated by YB Pn. Hajjah Fuziah Salleh, the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religion) in the presence of H.H Prince Dr. Banda bin Salman bin Muhammad AlSaud; MEDIU Chairman Board of Governors, Sheikh As Sultan Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III; Sultan of Sokoto Nigeria and Datuk Dr. Mohd Ghazali Md Noor from Yayasan Kajian dan Pembangunan DPMM (YKPD).
The 1st GWC Awards & Recognition Dinner Ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail, in which she stressed on the importance and benefits of waqf as a socio-economic driver, which leads to a better quality of life. She encouraged all the stakeholders from within the Waqf space to embrace change in light of new social developments, innovations, technology, economy and to cater to the needs of the millennials.
The conference was attended by approximately 500 peoples from various countries and industries, where it serve as a platform to explore the boundaries of new Waqf developments, initiatives and progress in management, while shedding light on new innovations, success stories among the waqf experts, practitioners, law makers, scholars, academicians and religious leaders.
