Objective Of The Course
The Bachelor of Computer Science in Networking and Multimedia Computing program has been designed in such a way as to provide the graduates with:
- The knowledge to analyze, design, implement, configure, manage, and administer, and securely maintain a network infrastructure.
- An understanding of mathematics, basic science behind computing and networking to enter the ICT profession or advanced studies.
- The ability to identify problems and critically analyze them to provide creative solution in view of networking and computing opportunities and constraints.
- Proficiency in communication, understanding of professional ethics, and the ability to demonstrate success and leadership, as well as the ability to engage in continuing professional development.
Learning Outcome Of The Course
The programme is designed to meet the following learning Outcomes, and to ensure that its graduates are able to:
- Implement fundamental knowledge of mathematics, science; and Information and Communication Technology.
- Use the techniques, skills and contemporary tools related to networking to practice as a Telecommunication and Network Engineer.
- Implement and evaluate networking solutions, based on critical and creative problem solving skills.
- Manage effectively complex Networking projects that are motivational, entrepreneurial, research and/or industry related.
- Design a system, component, or process to meet the desired needs required by the computer application and/or networking infrastructure.
- Analyze, create, assemble, configure, and securely implement, manage, maintain network infrastructures.
- Portray high self confidence, strong ethics, moral values, leadership, and entrepreneurship skills.
- Work in multi-disciplinary teams, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Collect, analyze and interpret data and to infer scientifically-based judgements from it, as well as to implement appropriate solutions in view of the networking opportunities and constraints.
- Understand and put into practice ethical and professional responsibility.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the rapid development of ICT and the extensive use of multimedia, and its global and societal impact.
- Recognize the need to perform life-long learning to obtain knowledge and skills.
Programme Aims:
The programme aims to give the students the knowledge and skills needed in a career in networking and computing industry or entry to a postgraduate course. The programme covers the main knowledge area of computer networks and ICT.
Particularly, the programme seeks to:
- Develop a strong knowledge of the science and mathematics related to the networks and ICT field.
- Develop expertise in the deployment and integration of a range of networking technologies.
- Develop an ability to use, evaluate and compare an array of techniques and methods as used in the implementation of networking services.
- Cultivate the students’ managerial and entrepreneurship skills with high self esteem as well as good moral, ethical, and human values.
- Promote the knowledge and technical skills required by the networking and communication industry.
- Develop the ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
- Develop the ability to work independently and achieve a task or programme of work with minimal monitoring.
- Promote the knowledge and skills required by the multimedia computing industry.
- Provide appropriate professional experience of working in the computing industry through the industrial training.
Expected areas of graduate employment:
Students that complete this program will be prepared for careers in Information and communication technology related fields such as technology integration of network solutions and telecommunications systems; integrated computer and broadband communication infrastructures for global networking, as well as multimedia systems design and implementation within education, training, instructional design, business promotion, and on-line entertainment industries. Furthermore, the graduates of this program potential career may include project management, management information systems, and technology consultancy.

Entry Requirement:
- A pass in Shahadah Thanawiyyah Ammah examination (compulsory: taken upon the completion of 12 years primary and secondary schools education) with 3 Credits, inclusive of Mathematics; OR
- Three principal passes inclusive of Mathematics in the STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia / Malaysia High School Certificate); OR
- Three principal passes inclusive of Mathematics in the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE) ‘A’ Level Examination (UK Education System); OR
- A pass in MEDIU’s Foundation programme with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
- A Pass in a Diploma programme in related field with minimum CGPA of 2.00 or A Pass in a Diploma programme in unrelated field and with credit in Mathematics at the SPM level and recognized by the Government of Malaysia and/or the Senate of the University; OR
- Five (5) Passes in SPM/SPMV or in the General Certificate of Education ‘Ordinary Level’ (GCE) ‘O’ Level Examination (UK Education System) or their equivalent AND at least 3 years working experience; OR
- Any other certificate or qualification that is recognized by the University’s Academic Board as equivalent to one of the above; OR
- Open entry – Candidates should not be less than 21 years of age on 1st January during the year of application; with minimum of 5 years of working experience in the related field of study; AND Pass in Peperiksaan Menengah Rendah (PMR (after 8 years of schooling)
Language Requirement:
- English Language
Where the medium of instruction of a course is English and if applicant’s first language is other than English, applicants are required to obtain a score of either:
- 550 TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or
- 6.0 band IELTS (International English Language Testing Service)
Applicants, who do not have either of the above qualifications, are required to pass MEDIU’s English Placement Test (MEPT) with a minimum 6.0 point
