Objective
The Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) program has been designed in such away as to provide the graduates with:
(PO1) Fundamental knowledge of mathematics, basic science, computing science, networking and multimedia computing to enter the computing profession or advanced studies.
(PO2) The ability to work in teams, analyze complex computing systems in view of modern developments in electronic, computing, and information technology, design solutions and implement these solutions using the appropriate tools and
technologies.
(PO3) Proficiency in communication, understanding of professional ethics, and the ability to demonstrate success and leadership, as well as the ability to engage in continuing professional development.
Learning Outcomes
The programme is designed to meet the following learning Outcomes, and to ensure that its graduates have:
(LO1) An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and information technology.
(LO2) An ability to design computer systems and to appreciate the various skills required.
(LO3) Knowledge of the computer systems, computer networking and software and multimedia technologies typical for computing facilities and services.
(LO4) Skills in analysing, specifying and supporting networking and software resources typical for modern computing systems.
(LO5) An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet the desired needs required by the distributed computing infrastructure.
(LO6) An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams, especially complex computing systems teams.
(LO7) An ability to identify, formulates, and solve computing problems in view of the modern ICT opportunities and constraints.
(LO8) An ability to communicate effectively to successfully manage computing systems development projects.
(LO9) An ability to use the skills, techniques, and contemporary tools necessary for computer application development and system design.
(LO10) A clear understanding of ethical and professional responsibility.
(LO11) An understanding of the rapid development of computing industry and the extensive use of ICT and multimedia, and its global and societal impact.
(LO12) An understanding of the need to undertake life-long learning, and an ability to do so by taking up the opportunities available in the different fields.
Entry Requirements
(a) A pass in Shahadah Thanawiyyah Ammah examination (compulsory: taken upon the completion of 12 years primary and secondary schools education) with 3 Credits, inclusive of Mathematics; OR
(b) Three principal passes inclusive of Mathematics in the STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia / Malaysia High School Certificate); OR
(c) Three principal passes inclusive of Mathematics in the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE) ‘A’ Level Examination (UK Education System); OR
(d) A pass in MEDIU’s Foundation programme with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
(e) A pass in any related Diploma recognized by the Government of Malaysia and/or the Senate of the University; OR
(f) Five (5) Passes in SPM/SPMV or in the General Certificate of Education ‘Ordinary Level’ (GCE) ‘O’ Level Examination (UK Education System) or their equivalent AND at least 3 years working experience; OR
(g) Any other certificate or qualification that is recognized by the University’s Academic Board as equivalent to one of the above; OR
(h) Open entry – Candidates should not be less than 21 years of age on 1st January during the year of application; with minimum of 5 years of working experience in the related field of study; AND Pass in Peperiksaan Menengah Rendah (PMR)(after 8 years of schooling).
Language
Where the medium of instruction of a course is English and if applicant’s first language is other than English, applicants are required to obtain a score of either:
• 550 TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or
• 6.0 band IELTS (International English Language Testing Service)
Applicants, who do not have either of the above qualifications, are required to pass MEDIU’s English Placement Test (MEPT) with a minimum 6.0 points.
