Objectives
The programme objectives at the bachelor level are to educate and train learners to become graduate scholar-teachers who are able to:
PO1. Acquire and apply a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the underlying values and principles of education science of Islamic studies.
PO2: Acquire, and apply conceptual understanding of the diverse learners’ backgrounds and personalities in the complex educational processes involving teaching Islamic studies.
PO3: Explore and create opportunities and possibilities in implementing innovative and relevant Islamic studies educational programmes, as well as demonstrate, uphold and cherish the ethics and professional codes of practice and values of the teaching profession;
PO4: Initiate and foster positive and productive relationships with Islamic studies education and the community as well as demonstrate the capacity to engage in life-long learning and life-long contribution;
PO5: Acquire, apply and exercise acts of professional leadership which originated from studies in the biography of the prophet in accordance with the responsibilities given or initiated by the professional scholar-teacher; and
PO6: Continuously and incrementally develop general knowledge and individual talents and the fullest personal personalities.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the programme scholar-teachers should be able to:
LO1. Analyse and develop understanding of the structure, content and methodology relating to student learning in Islamic studies education programme;
LO2. Function effectively in applying different philosophical underpinnings in Islamic studies education and practical skills at different levels and in different educational settings;
LO3. Competently and innovatively promote the utilization of the knowledge of the Islamic studies teaching profession and protocols of quality practices in educational settings as well as address sensitively, effectively and mindfully the multicultural contexts of learner diversity to foster learning and nurture the talents and potentialities of learners;
LO4. Meet the requirements of established professional teaching standards at all levels (schools, colleges, universities and other learning organizations);
LO5. Apply knowledge of Islamic belief, communication skills, and, have the capacity to work collaboratively and independently to solve problems in different educational settings;
LO6. Demonstrate characteristics of professional leadership appropriate to the responsibility given;
LO7. Develop individual teaching processes including time management and organization skills;
LO8. Apply problem solving and scientific skills as well as awareness of the role of research to inform their evolving in Islamic studies education professional practice, through knowledge mastery and understanding;
LO9. Reflect upon and learn from their own experiences in order to advance and take their own learning forward, for instance, using the theory of social constructivism;
LO10. Exhibit managerial and entrepreneurial skills as well as be responsive to the changing nature of education as an academic and professional discipline;
LO11. Be actively engaged in contributions to community development through professional organizations or voluntary organizations.
Entry Requirements
- Passed Malaysian High School Certificate (STPM) with at least two principals including Arabic Language or equivalent with minimum CGPA of at least 2.0
- Passed Foundation/relavant Matriculation with minimum CGPA of at least 2.0; OR
- Attained a relevant; OR
- Any relevant qualification that is recognized by the Malaysian Government; AND
- Passed the examination Shahadah Thanawiyyah Ammah.
Language Requirements
- Arabic Language
- Applicant applying into course where the medium of instruction is Arabic, applications are required to pass the MEDIU’s Arabic Placement Test (MAPT). Exception will be given based on the Senate’s approval on individual cases.
