Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) hosted an honored visitor, The Honorable Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohamad; Malaysia’s longest-serving Prime Minister of Malaysia on Wednesday, 2 March 2011. The honored guest was welcomed by MEDIU’s Honorable Rector; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Khalifa Al-Tamimi, Manager of Administrative Affairs Division; Mr. Khalid Mahamat Idriss Ahamat along with University’s council members; Datuk Ismail bin Ibrahim and Tan Sri Dr. Zulkifli Bin Hassan. Tun Dr.Mahathir was being greeted with hospitality as well by the University’s students from various countries.

Tun Dr.Mahathir toured all the departments in the University’s such as the academic administrative department, admission and registration, technology departments, library, students’ classrooms and computer labs to have a better insight on MEDIU’s operation and technical system. During the visit, Tun Dr.Mahathir has the opportunities to meet up with the University’s staffs and students from various backgrounds during the office tour.

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al-Tamimi expressed his deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Tun Dr. Mahathir for his visit to MEDIU as Tun Dr.Mahathir is one of Malaysia’s prominent figure in the global world in view of his vision and insights that have made Malaysia a developed and excelled country in various fields. MEDIU’s Honorable Rector enlighten Tun Dr.Mahathir that the implementation of MEDIU using the comprehensive modern technology is a role model for others educational institutions as to encourage Muslims to acquire the knowledge in the science and technology area.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) in future collaboration between Al-Madinah International University(MEDIU) and Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Malaysia(SIRIM) was being held during the ceremony witnessed by Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohamad. The agreement was signed by MEDIU’s Rector; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Khalifa Al-Tamimi and SIRIM President and Chief Executive; Y.Bhg. Dato’ Ir. Haji Yahaya Ahmad.At the end of the ceremony, MEDIU’s Honorable Rector presented token of appreciation to Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad for his time visiting MEDIU and Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad expressed his admiration towards the University’s by stated in the guest book “Congratulation on the establishment in this state of the art on-line distance learning university, the extensive use of modern technology in education is an achievements in itself”
