Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) participated in the First Gathering Session with all the Private Educations Institutions Chief Executive Officer on Monday, 2 September 2013 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). The welcoming speech was presented by YAB Tan Sri Dato’Haji Muhyiddin Bin Haji Mohd.Yassin; Malaysia Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Education as well as Prof. Dr. Morshidi Sirat; Chief Registrar of the Department of the Private Higher Education Malaysia.
MEDIU was represented by The Honorable CEO; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Khalifa Al-Tamimi and Deputy CEO of Academic Affairs Division; Associate Professor Dr Hj. Wan Mat Hj Sulaiman along with Mr.Fuad Ahmad Umar Al’As; Manager of Administrative Affairs Division.
The event is being held mainly on the merge announcement of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Education and to upsurge spirit of cooperation and unity among the private education institution sector. The governments have agreed to combine the ministries; in line with the objectives to ensure the continuity of education policies in the country. This is in par in order to be able to compete with the international educational standards as well as the government’s delivery system besides provides an opportunity to gather large families of the similar responsibility to exchange thoughts and ideas to develop the private education sector.
YAB Tan Sri Dato’Haji Muhyiddin states in his speech that the government is currently in process of lining the Malaysia Education Blueprint and the National Higher Education Strategic Plan. Both of the initiative is aim to ensure the educational value chain is seamless; that is from primary education to higher education as well as to life long-learning education. Among the aspiration of the Ministry is to ensure the education system is ready to propel Malaysia to become high income nation by 2020 through the development of quality human capital as per the outline in the Malaysia Education Blueprint. Students should be developing in various attributes such as critical thinking, broad general knowledge, leadership skills, communication and language skills (Malay and English language), ethical and spiritual values and nationalistic values as well. He also believes that this should be the focus of the higher education sector besides providing corporate and assisting manpower and specialist for the industry.
In addition, he also stressed on the importance of international bench marking (internalization) which can be benefited by the private education sector. Institution can benefit by the Ministry effort to increase the number of international students, attracts international academic staff and as well as effort to enhance the quality of research and development internationally.
