The Malaysian TV Channel (TV1) hosted in its program “Selamat Pagi Malaysia” on Friday August 5, 2022, CEO of Al-Madinah International University, Dr. Abdullah Saad A. Alarefi, where the interview was on the importance of learning Arabic and the role of Al-Madinah International University in spreading and teaching Arabic language in Malaysia. At the beginning of the interview, Dr. Abdullah Alarefi expressed his happiness to be in Malaysia. When asked about the importance of using technology in learning the Arabic language, Dr. Abdullah Alarefi referred to the prominent roles that Al-Madinah International University played in teaching Arabic throughout its history since 2008 in Malaysia until now, and he spoke about the university’s ability to employ the best technical tools for language teaching. Over the years, the university was able to spread and reach students in more than 90 countries in accordance to the students’ times and locations of residence, citing the distinguished success achieved by the university during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Abdullah Alarefi stressed the importance of the Arabic language and the necessity of learning it, pointing out that it is a living language spoken by hundreds of millions of peoples of dozens of countries, and at the same time it is the language of the Qur’an and the language of worship in Islam. Dr. Abdullah Alarefi added that every Muslim should learn the Arabic language In order for him to understand Qur’an and to perform the rituals of Hajj and Umrah during the visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to be able to communicate with the Saudi people who speak the Arabic language. Dr. Abdullah Alarefi then talked about programmes offered by MEDIU for learning Arabic, starting from short courses and foundations, Bachelor and Master degrees, and PhD in Arabic language.
In the interview, Professor Farhan bin Hasmady, a lecturer at the university, spoke about his experience in learning the Arabic language, which he began to learn from a young age. Mr. Farhan spoke about the importance of the Arabic environment to learn the language, pointing out that MEDIU is rich and valid with its environment for those who want to learn the language, justifying this that learning the language is not only limited to attendance in the classroom, but the student must practice the language, which is the most important characteristic of the university that distinguish it from others through its various facilities. Regarding the importance of the Arabic language, he added that learning the Arabic language affected his life, as the Arabic enriched his knowledge and made it easier for him to understand Qur’an and perform acts of worship such as Salat and Duaa.
