KUALA LUMPUR-Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) is ready to share its experience and expertise to successfully continue operations without being affected during the Covid-19 pandemic with other institutions of higher learning (IPT).

Its Chief Executive Officer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fadlan Mohd Othman said, as a private HEI, MEDIU had a comprehensive online teaching system developed since its establishment in 2007.

Known as the Campus Management System (CMS), it is a system where it does not require students to come to class on campus and is even able to store data even if the registration profile was entered more than 10 years ago.

According to him, during the implementation of online teaching at the beginning of the Movement Control Order (MCO) last year, MEDIU continued to operate as usual compared to other HEIs, it was a bit chaotic to use it at that time.

“With this CMS, MEDIU was not very impressed and the number of student admissions did not fall and the student graph decreased only slightly during the pandemic.

“MEDIU also does not receive too much pressure and in fact when the implementation of PKP, the concept of working from home has saved university’s operating costs.

“This is because the university can reduce electricity consumption as an example of only one building operating compared to five buildings previously.

“We are lucky because the CMS developed by MEDIU’s leaders before this only made us less impressed and able to continue online learning as usual as practiced before,” he said when interviewed by MalaysiaGazette here today.

“The system used can indeed accommodate online learning and even be able to provide services to other HEIs.

“However, so far the system at MEDIU only accommodates itself and is in the process of making improvements as well as planning to share how this system can be used not only in HEIs in the country but also abroad.

“Even now, MEDIU is also helping Taibah University in Saudi Arabia to develop their online teaching system,” he said. – MalaysiaGazette
